ABOUT THE ARTIST

Linda Ann Watson

I have loved producing art most of my life beginning my studies at Presentation High School, San Francisco graduating with an award in art in 1966. Throughout the years, travel and photography reawakened the desire to translate the experience of “place” into an expression of brush art.

In 1992, I began formal art studies at the San Francisco Academy of Art University, San Francisco, California. Exploring many different art mediums, I concentrated on the unique challenges of watercolor painting.

Painting small plein air watercolor sketches of my travel experiences, I lock in the richness of color that my digital images can distort. These serve as a reference for my larger studio paintings, the bulk of my portfolio. The subjects are often composites of images. My paintings reflect a collage of natural and architectural elements that define special places. Avoiding the ‘icons’ of famous places I look for the hidden elements of a scene. My landscape paintings portray the spirit or life of a place rather than the static image I just see through a lens. Floral paintings reflect the emotion and love of color using transparent watercolors and under-painting techniques.

I have continued my studies with Ms. Jennifer Almodova in Half Moon Bay, California. I have painted in Italy on numerous occasions with family and friends that include professional artists. Painting by invitation with The Atelier, professional artisans in porcelain art my portfolio includes a hand painted tile mural from one of my own compositions.
